Optometrist - Co President


Dr. Joe R. Blackstock is a graduate of Bluefield College (1968), where he received an Associate of Science Degree. He began his optometric education at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and graduating in 1972 with Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees. From 1972-1974 he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, where he was in charge of Eye Services at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia.

Dr. Blackstock's distinguished past includes past presidencies with the Rocky Mount Rotary Club, Southwest Virginia Optometric Society, and the Bluefield College Alumni Association. He has also served on the Bluefield College Board of Governors at various times from 1976-1994. Most recently he has served on the Board of Trustees of Bluefield College, 1993- 2003. Dr. Blackstock serves as Vice President of the Board of Voice of the Blue Ridge, a non- profit that provides services to people with visual impairments.

As Co-President of Drs. Newman, Blackstock and Associates, Optometrists P.C., he practices General Optometry with an emphasis on disease diagnosis and treatment, contact lenses, dry eye diagnosis and disease, routine vision care services, eye examinations and glasses. Additionally, Dr. Blackstock provides special "Low Vision" examinations.

Dr. Blackstock is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Southwest Virginia Optometric Association.
